Appointment Types
Choosing the right appointment length helps ensure there’s enough time to address your concerns thoroughly.
If you’re not sure what to book, please contact reception for advice.
Standard Appointment (10–15 minutes)
Ideal for managing one straightforward concern, such as:
- Cough, gastro or ear infection
- Minor injuries
- STI check
- Routine cervical screening test
- Reviewing results
If you have more than one concern or feel your issue may be complex, consider booking a long appointment.
Long Appointment (20–30 minutes)
Recommended for a few simple concerns, or one more complex issue, such as:
- New patients with a complex medical history
- Preconception consultation
- First antenatal (pregnancy) visit
- Menstrual concerns or pelvic pain
- Contraceptive counselling
- Preconsultation for Mirena/Kyleena IUD insertions
- Mental health concerns or care plans
- Unplanned pregnancy consultation
- First postnatal check for Mum
- First baby check for baby (Mum and baby need an appointment each)
- Baby immunisations or developmental checks
Prolonged Appointment (45 minutes)
This is for complex consultations requiring extra time, including first menopause/perimenopause
IUD Insertion (Mirena or Kyleena)
Step 1: Preconsultation (30 minutes)
This appointment involves checking your suitability for an IUD, education about IUDs and the procedure, an examination, arranging necessary investigations, providing a prescription and instructions on how to prepare for the procedure.
Step 2: Insertion (45 minutes)
Please note: You cannot drive for 1 hour after your IUD insertion, so arrange a lift or bring something to do while you wait.
Implanon Insertion and/or Removal (30 minutes)
- If you already have your prescription: you may book directly for insertion. Fill the script ahead of time and bring the implanon to your appointment.
- If you don’t have a prescription yet: please book a standard appointment first to discuss suitability and obtain a script.
Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTOP)
Step 1: Preconsultation (30 minutes)
An appointment to discuss your options, check your suitability, and arrange required tests.
Already seen another GP? You can book directly if you’ve completed:
- An ultrasound confirming an intrauterine pregnancy under 9 weeks
- STI testing (urine or swab for chlamydia/gonorrhoea)
- Blood tests including full blood count
Step 2: MTOP Appointment (45 minutes)
This appointment includes review of results, a detailed discussion about the process and what to expect, and provision of prescriptions, medical certificate and other documentation.
Follow-up:
Two short follow-ups are included (via phone or in-person):
- A few days after taking the medication
- 2–3 weeks later
Breastfeeding and/or Infant Sleep Consultation (60 minutes)
These in-depth consultations involve a detailed assessment of your family’s situation, examination of your baby, and observation of a feed where appropriate. Together, we’ll create a tailored plan that fits your goals and needs.
Please note: both parent and baby need to be registered patients.
